Do Not Grow Weary: A Harvest Awaits
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
— Galatians 6:9 (ESV)
If the encouragement from 2 Chronicles 15:7—”Take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work will be rewarded”—spoke to your heart, then this powerful verse from Paul’s letter to the Galatians builds on that same truth in the New Testament. It’s a timeless reminder that perseverance in faithfulness leads to a promised harvest.
The Context: Sowing in the Spirit
In Galatians 6, Paul contrasts living by the flesh (which leads to corruption) with living by the Spirit (which brings eternal life). He urges believers to “sow to the Spirit” through acts of goodness—helping others, sharing burdens, and pursuing righteousness (Galatians 6:7-10). But he knows the reality: doing good can be exhausting. Opposition, delayed results, and personal fatigue tempt us to quit.
That’s why he writes this verse: Don’t grow weary. Keep sowing. The harvest is coming—if we endure.
This echoes the Old Testament promise to King Asa but applies it to every believer under the new covenant. Our “good works” aren’t to earn salvation (that’s by grace through faith—Ephesians 2:8-9), but they flow from it and will be rewarded in God’s perfect timing.
Applying It Today: Endurance for the Harvest
Don’t Grow Weary in Doing Good Weariness creeps in when we focus on immediate results. But Paul calls us to persistence—whether in parenting, serving the church, witnessing to neighbors, or ethical living at work.
In Due Season God’s timing isn’t always ours. Seasons of sowing can feel long and barren, but the harvest comes “at the proper time” (NIV). Trust the Farmer who controls the seasons.
We Will Reap If We Do Not Give Up The condition is clear: endurance. The reward? A bountiful harvest—spiritual fruit, eternal rewards, and the joy of seeing God’s kingdom advance.
This verse pairs beautifully with 2 Chronicles 15:7. One calls us to strong hands; the other warns against weariness. Together, they say: Keep going. Your labor in the Lord is never in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58).
A Prayer for Perseverance
Lord Jesus,
When weariness sets in and the harvest seems distant, renew our strength. Help us sow seeds of goodness without fainting, trusting Your promise of reward. May we reap abundantly for Your glory. Amen.
