Exciting Updates on Garmin Chat Desktop: Help Shape the Future with Your Votes!
Poll Your Pixels: Turning Garmin Data into a Chatty Sidekick Before It Ghosts Your Goals!
If you’ve been following my journey in building tools for fitness enthusiasts, you know I’m passionate about making Garmin data more accessible and fun to interact with. For those new to it, Garmin Chat Desktop is my open-source application that turns your Garmin fitness data into an interactive chat experience. Think of it as a conversational AI companion that pulls in your workouts, sleep stats, heart rate trends, and more—right on your desktop. No more digging through clunky apps; just ask questions like “How’s my running progress this month?” and get insightful responses.
We’ve already got a solid foundation with core features like data querying, basic summaries, and integration with Garmin Connect. But I’m gearing up for the next phase of development, and I want your input to prioritize what comes next. Fitness tracking is personal, and I know everyone has different needs—whether you’re a marathon runner chasing PRs, a casual walker monitoring steps, or a data nerd who loves deep dives.
To make this collaborative, I’m launching a quick poll to gauge what features you’d like me to tackle first. Here’s the list of planned enhancements based on feedback I’ve received so far:
Visual charts and graphs for fitness trends: Bring your data to life with customizable visualizations, like line graphs for heart rate over time or bar charts for weekly calorie burn.
Enhanced data filtering and date ranges: More granular control to slice and dice your data, such as filtering by activity type or custom date periods.
More export format options: Beyond CSV, add support for PDF, JSON, or even direct integration with tools like Google Sheets.
Voice input/output: Hands-free mode—speak your queries and hear responses, perfect for post-workout reviews.
Mobile companion app: A lightweight iOS/Android version to sync with the desktop for on-the-go access.
Cloud sync (optional): Securely back up your settings and preferences across devices, with full opt-out for privacy-focused users.
Goal tracking and recommendations: Set personal fitness goals and get AI-powered suggestions, like “Increase your step count by 10% this week.”
Agented/automated previous day recaps and daily “fitfirmations”: Automated morning messages summarizing yesterday’s stats, plus motivational affirmations based on your progress.
Plugin system for custom data sources: Extend the app with plugins for third-party devices or APIs, like integrating Strava or Apple Health.
Email reports: Scheduled summaries sent straight to your inbox, customizable for daily, weekly, or monthly recaps.
These are all on the roadmap so your votes will help me focus on what matters most to the community. Use the polls here to rank your top priorities for the different categories. If there’s something not on this list that you’d love to see, drop a comment below or hit me up on X.
I’m aiming to roll out the first batch of these features in the coming months, and your feedback will directly influence the order. Let’s make Garmin Chat Desktop the ultimate fitness sidekick together. Thanks for your support—stay fit and keep chatting!
