Take Courage: Your Work Will Be Rewarded
But you, take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work will be rewarded.
“But you, take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work will be rewarded.”
— 2 Chronicles 15:7 (ESV)
Dear friends,
Have you ever felt like giving up? Like the tasks before you are too heavy, the road too long, and the fruits of your labor nowhere in sight? In those moments of weariness, God’s Word speaks directly to our hearts with a powerful encouragement from the book of 2 Chronicles.
The Context: A Call to Faithfulness in Troubled Times
This verse comes from a pivotal moment in Israel’s history. King Asa of Judah had just led his people in sweeping reforms—removing idols, repairing the altar of the Lord, and renewing their covenant with God (2 Chronicles 15:1-15). The prophet Azariah, inspired by the Spirit, delivered this message to Asa and the people. They had chosen obedience amid opposition, and now God was affirming their efforts: Take courage! Keep going! Your faithfulness isn’t in vain.
In a world that often rewards quick results and visible success, this ancient word reminds us that God’s economy operates differently. He sees the quiet faithfulness, the unseen sacrifices, and the persistent labor done in His name.
Applying It Today: Strength for the Journey
Take Courage in Your Calling Whatever your “work” is—raising children, serving in ministry, excelling in your job, or simply loving your neighbor—do it with boldness. Courage isn’t the absence of fear or fatigue; it’s acting in spite of them, trusting God’s presence.
Do Not Let Your Hands Be Weak Weak hands drop the plow mid-field. They scroll endlessly instead of creating. They withhold help out of discouragement. But God commands strength! Lift those hands in prayer, roll up your sleeves, and press on. As Paul echoes in the New Testament: “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:58).
Your Work Will Be Rewarded This is the promise that fuels perseverance. The reward may not be immediate or earthly—it could be souls touched, character refined, or eternal crowns laid at Jesus’ feet. God is a faithful rewarder (Hebrews 11:6). He notices every cup of cold water given in His name (Matthew 10:42).
A Prayer for Strength
Heavenly Father,
When our strength fails and our vision blurs, remind us of Your words to Asa: Take courage! Strengthen our weak hands for the work You’ve set before us. Help us labor not for human applause but for Your glory, confident that every effort in You will be richly rewarded. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
